The Municipality of Chester engaged a consultant in a two-year study that began in 2025-2026 to undertake hydrologic reviews, watershed analysis, field investigations, concept engineering, and regulatory consultation. The budget was $300,000.00.
Interim findings from the study have identified four lakes as potential water sources:
- Vaughan's Lake
- Bezanson Lake
- Connaught Lake
- Henry Lake.
Following preliminary evaluation, Henry Lake was selected for additional field monitoring, technical analysis, and concept engineering work. The study is focused on identifying opportunities to service Western Shore, Chester Basin, and Chester.
Chester Basin is considered one of the Municipality's hamlet areas, ideal for infrastructure improvements and expansion (see Charting A Course for Growth). Early findings from monitoring Henry Lake appear promising; however, additional work is required before a final production yield can be determined. Ongoing monitoring, environmental studies, and public consultation will take place as a potential project takes shape.
