The Chester Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently under construction at the existing site. Instead of open lagoons, treatment will be within closed concrete tanks with odour and noise control. The existing Class 2 facility treats wastewater using an oxidation ditch with clarifiers and UV disinfection. Sludge is removed using a vacuum truck and taken to Kaizer Meadow for treatment.
We treat the equivalent of 590 homes/businesses, and this upgrade will allow us to treat another 350 equivalent homes/businesses. The new plant will also be designed for future expansion when necessary. A pending construction tender will include an upgrade of the lift stations on Mallard Lane and Pig Loop Road with communication systems monitored at the new plant.
