The Chester Wastewater Treatment Plant is a Class 2 facility that treats wastewater using an oxidation ditch with clarifiers and UV disinfection. Sludge is removed using a vacuum truck and taken to Kaizer Meadow for treatment.

Currently, we treat the equivalent of 590 homes/businesses.

Upgrades

The upgraded wastewater treatment plant will include a new inlet screening facility to remove coarse solids, an advanced biological treatment process, and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. The facility will also include an emergency bypass system and an automatic standby generator to maintain operation during power outages. No changes will be made to the existing effluent outfall.

Instead of open lagoons, treatment will be within closed concrete tanks with odour and noise control. This upgrade will allow for an additional 350 equivalent homes/businesses and is designed for future expansion when necessary. Lift stations on Mallard Lane and Pig Loop Road with communication systems monitored at the new plant.

Current Project Status: Construction is underway. The project is currently scheduled for substantial completion in May/June 2027.
